Description
Lede: What can a marriage certificate teach us about a couple, an artist, and Black history in Rhode Island?
In this episode, students from Rhode Island College Professor Amy Barlow’s FYS 100 class examine a marriage certificate from the Edmonds and Osborne family papers in Special Collections. They selected this certificate as a launch point to discuss Black history in Rhode Island, including the noted artist Edward Mitchel Bannister, whose home on Benevolent Street in Providence was later occupied by the Edmonds family.
