Dick Gregory visited Rhode Island College on November 11, 1986 to speak to at Gaige Hall auditorium. The event, which began at 7:30 PM, was sponsored by the student organization Harambee. Dick Gregory is introduced by a student member of Harambee, Kim Smith, and then-head of African/Afro-American Studies Department, Professor Richard Lobban. Dick Gregory's speech, which encourages critical thinking through humor touches on contemporary issues including, among other topics, racism, political activism in the 1960s, the war on drugs, AIDS, the gay community, and the negative impact of the policies of then-President Ronald Reagan.
