Abstract
Rhode Island College campus is not a bike friendly campus. There is a lack of bike racks, no dedicated bike lanes or shared lane markings, no accessible information about biking at RIC, and no resources to support current or potential cyclists on campus. This paper relies on observation of campus bike facilities (or the lack thereof) and draws inspiration from existing bike friendly campuses and bike advocacy groups to create a plan to make RIC safer for pedestrians and cyclists. This plan consists of a variety of initiatives that could be pursued either by the school, or in some cases, the students themselves. These initiatives are categorized under the groups of campus infrastructure, bike education, student resources, or community advocacy. This paper provides a path to turn RIC into a more bike friendly campus, which will help in the school's mission of becoming a model campus for sustainable practices and programs, as well as support RIC’s pledge of devotion to the safety and security of RIC students.
