This interview with Gabriel Crevier was conducted on May 4, 1976. The interview discusses French-Canadian migration to the United States, the French community in Holyoke (Mass.), work, French-Canadian community in Woonsocket (R.I.), religion, and the origins of insurance societies. In addition to the audio recording of the interview, there is a typed summary and abstract.

Original abstract (1976): This interview lasted nearly three hours but I only have one hour on tape. We were trying to get Mr. Crevier to focus on a number of topics relating to the development of the French-Canadian community in Woonsocket. For this reason, I delayed taping the interview until I could discover exactly what information Mr. Crevier possessed. As it turned out, he has been a resident of Woonsocket for only the last sixteen years and much of his infor- mation was in the form of generalizations about the French-Canadian experience as a whole.

In any case, the taped part of the interview was the last hour where I tried to get him to bridge the personal and the general. Side 1 is a brief biographical sketch of Mr. Crevier and Side 2 is an attempt to move toward his generalizations as exemplified by Woonsokcet. This did not work out and I think the interview is of limited usefulness.
