The COVID-19 pandemic was declared a public health emergency which led to a rapid influx of patients with high acuity into the hospital setting, thereby increasing the workload for nurses. The purpose of this project is to determine the effect of a mindfulness room for acute care nurses on coping with work environmental challenges and burnout. A literature review was conducted for evidence-based measures utilized to combat nursing burnout and compassion fatigue, and the effect of the use of mindfulness rooms to build resilience. Nurses from a 33-bed medical surgical unit will be asked to participate in using a mindfulness room during their hospital shifts over a four-week period. A pre and post survey using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) will be administered to participants to assess the effectiveness of the mindfulness room on burnout. The expected outcome will be improved scores on the MBI after implementation of the mindfulness room intervention. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) can implement strategies to decrease burnout and improve nurse resilience.
