Induced abortions are a common and essential component of women’s healthcare; however, gaps in provider education regarding the recognition and management of post-abortion complications remain. This quality improvement project aims to enhance the knowledge, confidence, and comfortability of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in acute settings concerning post-abortion complications through a self-directed educational intervention. Guided by Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory, the project will be implemented within the Brown University Health System. Participants will complete a pre-survey, an interactive educational module via Net Learning, and a post-survey to evaluate changes in knowledge and comfort level with the topic. The educational content focuses on trauma-informed care and recognition and management of post-abortion complications, ranging from hemorrhage and infection to mortality. Improved provider knowledge on this topic is expected to enhance patient care and potentially reduce morbidity and mortality associated with post-abortion complications.
