Description
The Maplewood in Jamestown, Rhode Island was established by William Lincoln Bates in 1900 as a summer 'sanitarium,' but also as a resort and nursing home for rest and recuperation (https://www.jamestownpress.com/articles/historical-society-learns-jamestown-connection-to-three-stooges/). The structure was destroyed by fire on March 16, 1931, leaving at least five dead. (Providence Journal, 18 Mar. 1931, p. 3.) This photograph is undated. The reverse of the photo is captioned, "Jamestown."
