Description

This aerial photograph shows East Providence and the city of Providence divided by the Seekonk River. The river flows south between Providence and East Providence and eventually into the Providence River between Bold and India Point. Three bridges are visible, the Henderson Bridge, the Seekonk River Drawbridge, and the Washington Bridge. The Seekonk River Drawbridge is a railroad bridge. It was originally built in 1908, once was a connection to the old Union Station on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad line. This bridge was abandoned in 1976 and it is known to nearby residents as the "Stuck-Up Bridge" for its stuck up open position and has become somewhat of a local icon of urban decay.
