Description

Mindelo is the largest city on São Vicente. The island was rather desolate, hardly inhabited, until the mid 19th century when coal was discovered on the usland. Mindelo, now home to 92.6% of the islands population, is surrounded by deforested mountains and rocky, uninhabitable landscape, such as seen in this photograph.
