Description

São Vicente's scarce resources and dry climate makes cultivating agriculture particularly difficult. This photograph shows agricultural areas around the village of Calhau. Farms are surrounded by strong stone walls to keep goats from feeding on the delicate and rare vegetation that is grown within. Calhau is a popular weekend getaway for people living in Mindelo, São Vicente's biggest and only city.
