This Honors Project examines the presence and results of the gender divide in maritime culture through a research paper focusing on maritime history in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, as well as a song cycle, "One and the Same" for Mezzo-Soprano and Orchestra utilizing a popular belief of the time regarding women and superstition to construct a narrative.
