The village of João Galego lies in the desert, mountainous region on the island of Boa Vista. Even though there is little annual precipitation, the village manages a handful of farmlands that provide it with some food products. However, since the village is considered one of the poorest on Boa Vista, it receives many of its goods from southern towns which have better land and living conditions.
